The state-funded scholarships at University of Freiburg, Germany 2024

Value of scholarship: Monthly scholarship of 1,300 euros (inclusive of travel and material expense reimbursement). Recipients of scholarships who have children earn an extra 300 euros a month for the first kid and an additional 100 euros for each successive child.

The purpose of the state-funded scholarships offered by the State Graduate Funding (LGF) is to advance junior researchers who possess exceptional qualifications. Under the Land of Baden-Württemberg’s Act on Graduate Funding (LGFG), scholarships are awarded by the universities.

Eligibility: Funding is available to doctorate candidates in all faculties.

The following requirements must be fulfilled by applicants:

  • a college degree that entitles the bearer to entrance to a PhD program
  • exceptional credentials
  • a doctoral project anticipated to yield a significant research contribution
  • Prior admittance as a University of Freiburg PhD candidate (shown by an acceptance certificate from your home faculty): Your doctorate must be completed at the University of Freiburg; however, certain coursework, such as laboratory or archival work, may be completed both domestically and outside.
